January is
Glaucoma Awareness Month

No matter how you look at it, early diagnosis makes a difference.

While anyone can fall victim to glaucoma, the disease most commonly strikes individuals over 40, African Americans and people with a family history of glaucoma. In fact, African Americans are four to six times more likely to have glaucoma than Caucasians, especially in South Carolina.

Although glaucoma can’t be cured, it can be treated. No matter how you look at it, early diagnosis and treatment is critical in preventing blindness.

If you have questions or concerns about this blinding disease, contact your ophthalmologist for a full screening and evaluation.
