Pamela S. Chavis, MD, is an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina and directs the neuro-ophthalmology division at the MUSC Albert Florens Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to joining Storm Eye Institute, Dr. Chavis taught at the Medical College of Virginia, King Saud University, and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). She was the chief of neuro-ophthalmology for King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and recently served as acting chief of ophthalmology at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. After receiving a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey, Dr. Chavis received a medical degree from UMDNJ in Newark, New Jersey. She then completed an internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York, New York, followed by residencies at UMDNJ and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, New York. Dr. Chavis completed a fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. She is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Chavis holds memberships in several societies, including the International Society of Neuro-Ophthalmology, North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Medical Association. She also has held memberships in the American Headache Society, New Jersey Academy of Medicine and Medical Society of Virginia. During her professional career, Dr. Chavis has been awarded several honors including the Physician’s Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education, American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, Strathmore’s Who’s Who Guide to America’s Top Physicians, and Who’s Who National Registry.
