Robert J. Black, OD, MA is a clinical instructor of ophthalmology and a contact lens specialist at Albert Florens Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Before coming to MUSC, Dr Black consulted with refractive surgery patients at The Cincinnati Eye Institute in Ohio. He also owned and operated separate practices located in Troy and Piqua, Ohio for 22 years and lectured occasionally to students at Ohio State University. Dr Black's teaching experience began as a graduate teaching assistant at Ohio State University. He was then appointed an Assistant Professor at the United States Air Force Academy and later taught at Columbus State College where he authored a laboratory/lecture textbook on Ocular Anatomy and Physiology. He was named twice to the "Outstanding Young Men of America" and is still the only All-American soccer player ever to play at Ohio State University. Dr Black earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate degree from Ohio State University. He is board certified in treatment and management of ocular pathology and ocular diagnostic pharmacology. He was named as the Outstanding Graduate in his Optometry School at Ohio State and later named as the Outstanding Young Optometrist in the State of Ohio. While on active duty in the US Air Force, he was recognized as a distinguished lecturer in guerilla warfare and counterinsurgency by the USAF Special Operations School at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and received the USAF Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
