Storm Eye Institute : About Us

At the Storm Eye Institute, Vision is our mission.

We seek to advance the science of ophthalmology and meet the eye care needs of the public by committing: To Care, To Teach, To Serve, To Discover.

Storm Eye Institute: A Look Back - A Vision for the Future

Storm Eye Institute’s future is built on an impressive heritage. This began in 1961 when a generous gift by Mrs. Albert Florens Storm helped establish an institute for the treatment of and research in eye disorders.

Storm Eye Institute

The genesis of this Dedication Ceremony occurred in March of 1990 when South Carolina Lions initiated the Partnership in Service Campaign to add additional floors for research and teaching. With the catalyst of the Lions’ efforts and support from the university and state, SEI Board members, faculty, staff, patients, corporations, foundations and friends have met the $8.8 million goal to expand eye research and teaching. While decades have passed, our mission remains dedicated to providing state-of-the art patient care, cutting-edge scientific discovery and unparalleled educational opportunities.

The eye institute’s vision for the year feature, among other initiatives, accommodations for:

The Feldberg Center for Vision Rehabilitation
The Hanna Retina Research Laboratory
The Magill Laser Center -expanded utilization and on-going research
The Williams Glaucoma Therapeutic Development Center
Expansion of the Miles Center for Pediatric Ophthalmology
Expansion of the Ocular Pathology Laboratory and Center for Research on Ocular Therapeutics and  Biodevices

The Medical University expresses their deep appreciation to all those joining them in this vision to help conquer curable and treatable blindness.
