The Division of Audiology, under the leadership of Alan Klein, Ph.D., has a staff of four full-time clinical audiologists, one audiologist — Jack King, Ph.D., whose time is divided between research and clinical vestibular duties — and one part-time audiologist. Externs in audiology are frequently accepted, and the Division currently has a fourth-year AuD extern who is completing training.

The adult audiology clinic is located within the ENT clinic area. The facility has three sound-treated test suites, a hearing aid fitting room, cochlear implant programming room, and the vestibular laboratory directed by Dr. King. Adult services include diagnostic behavioral audiometric evaluations, as well as physiological evaluations including ABR, ECOG, ENOG, DPOAE, and TOAE. The clinic dispenses hearing aids from several of the major innovation manufacturers. Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) is performed by Dr. Klein. A second audiology clinic is located within the ENT clinic in the community of Mt. Pleasant, which is about 8 miles from the medical center. This is a private practice type setting located in a medical arts building which houses several other medical specialties. This audiology clinic is equipped with a double-walled sound-treated suite, a diagnostic audiometer and a middle-ear impedance measuring device. Complete hearing aid dispensing is performed at this site. Patients needing special testing such as OAE, ABR or ENG are referred to our downtown outpatient clinic.
