Berlin Beginning in 2001, a visiting resident exchange program was established between the Medical University of South Carolina and the Universitatsklinikum Medizinishce Facultat der Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin which affords a one-month exchange of residents in alternating years between Berlin and Charleston. This has not only fostered goodwill between our countries, but has provided an invaluable experience for the residents involved. The understanding of socialized medicine, surgical differences and clinical services between the two countries is foremost. The goodwill and cultural learning are priceless. To date, three residents from Germany have rotated at MUSC and one Otolaryngology resident from MUSC has rotated in Berlin. Turkey Beginning in 2001, an exchange program was established through the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. This program allows Turkish physicians to visit the Medical University of South Carolina for six months to one year to focus on research and clinical observation. It affords the foreign physicians the opportunity to observe the latest advances in head and neck oncology care and introduces them to basic, translational, and clinical research techniques in head and neck oncology. |
