| J. David Osguthorpe joined the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at MUSC in 1979, and is now a tenured full Professor. He grew up overseas while his father served in the U.S. Diplomatic Corp. Dr. Osguthorpe graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Utah. He then graduated with honors from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed specialty training in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1978, and later followed his interest in skull base surgery by taking a fellowship with one of the world's few experts at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Dr. Osguthorpe’s practice is limited to diseases of the nose and paranasal region, including sinusitis, hypersensitivity disorders, and head and cancers, particularly of the nasal region, salivary glands, larynx, thyroid and parathyroids. Dr. Osguthorpe has published more than 120 manuscripts and 28 book chapters, with editorial responsibilities on eight books. He has visiting professor duties at dozens of teaching hospitals in the United States and Europe and received the Presidential Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He also has served in leadership positions for many national societies, including the organization that governs training for all medical doctors in the United States. He has been listed in Who’s Who in America since 1997 and is also in “Best Doctor’s in America” and “America’s Top Doctors." At the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Osguthorpe heads the Operating Room Committee. Dr. Osguthorpe lives with his wife in the Charleston area and has two grown children.
