Mark J. Hoy, M.D., is originally from Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Boston College and graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1983. He returned home and attended Temple University School of Medicine graduating with honors in 1987. He completed a general surgery internship and otolaryngology (ENT) residency at the University of Louisville serving as chief resident in 1992.
After moving to Mt. Pleasant in July 1992, Dr. Hoy quickly established one of the premiere private practices in the area. His success caught the attention of Dr. Paul Lambert, chairman of the Otolaryngology Department at MUSC. Together, they forged a relationship that eventually brought Dr. Hoy onto the full-time staff at MUSC beginning in 2001. He now serves as assistant professor and medical director of the Allergy Division at East Cooper. He divides his time seeing patients at all three clinic locations: MUSC ENT Associates at East Cooper, Rutledge Tower downtown and MUSC Specialty Care in North Charleston. He performs surgery at MUSC, Rutledge Tower Ambulatory Surgery Center and East Cooper Hospital. Dr. Hoy has been board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology since 1992. His career interests include: sinus disease, sinus surgery (including image-guided surgery), the diagnosis and treatment of allergy, and general pediatric otolaryngology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. A resident of the Old Village in Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Hoy and his wife Nancy have been married 18 years. Nancy has recently started a second career in real estate. They have two sons, Payne, 14, and Connor, 17, who both attend Porter-Gaud School and excel at tennis and basketball. Dr Hoy is an avid and accomplished saltwater fly fisherman, a wine enthusiast, and enjoys traveling with his family.  More on Dr. Hoy
