Dietitian Q/A
Because of the contents of some questions and the large number we receive, the MUSC Dietitians only answer selected questions. Although we discourage questions regarding personal health problems, scheduling an appointment with the outpatient dietitian to address these concerns is encouraged. Appointments can be made after a physician referral is received.

Question:
Is pudding considered a liquid at room temperature?
|
Answer:
In the most basic sense, pudding would be considered a solid at room temperature because it can hold it's shape on a plate. Speech therapist will often refer to foods with a similar texture as a pudding-thick liquid, hence the confusion about whether it is a solid or a liquid. For people who require modified liquid consistencies for dysphagia (swallowing difficulty) it's consistency is used to describe how some liquids may need to be thickened to help protect the airways.
