Dietitian Q/A

Because of the contents of some questions and the large number we receive, the MUSC Dietitians only answer selected questions. Although we discourage questions regarding personal health problems, scheduling an appointment with the outpatient dietitian to address these concerns is encouraged. Appointments can be made after a physician referral is received.

Question:  My 25 year old daughter, who lives in Charleston, was diagnosed about 9 months ago with IBS-D. Her doctor in Chicago prescribed medicine for her IBS that she takes almost daily. Do you have a nutritionist at MUSC that works with IBS patients. There is lots of info on the internet but so much of the IBS nutrition info is contradicting. She would love to find a nutritionist there to help her better understand nutrition and how it relates to IBS. Thanks!

Here at MUSC we have an outpatient dietitian who can provide nutritional counseling on a wide variety of diseases and conditions including IBS.

To schedule an appointment with our outpatient dietitian:
1) Obtain a referral from you physician. They can use the referral form from the following link:

Or they can use their own form.
2) Have your physician fax the referral to 843-792-2995. The scheduling department will then contact you to set up the appointment.
