Dietitian Q/A

Because of the contents of some questions and the large number we receive, the MUSC Dietitians only answer selected questions. Although we discourage questions regarding personal health problems, scheduling an appointment with the outpatient dietitian to address these concerns is encouraged. Appointments can be made after a physician referral is received.

Enter a keyword or phrase:
Question:  i have a big problem of digestion. it will not in a regular interval so please let me know what specific diet should take for the best digestion and the health goes fine. my age is just 30

Answer:

Problems with digestion can be caused by a variety of medical conditions. It is most important to first have a doctor determine the cause of the digestive problems. Once you have determined the underlying cause of your digestive problems, a dietitian can help you with setting up a diet for that specific medical condition. Without knowing what is causing the problem or what symptoms you are having it would be impossible to give you guidance on a specific diet. Each digestive problem has different requirements. For instance, some people would require more fiber but for others less fiber would be better.

Once you have determined the cause of your digestive problems,  you should schedule an appointment with our outpatient dietitian. To do so:
1) Obtain a referral from you physician. They can use the referral form from the following link:
http://www.muschealth.com/nutrition/clinicalservices/outpatient/RT%20Newsletters/MNTReferral.pdf
Or they can use their own form.
2) Have your physician fax the referral to 843-792-2995. The scheduling department will then contact you to set up the appointment.
