As the nation’s largest provider of tele-ICU services, Advanced ICU Care has a proven track record of improving the clinical and financial performance of its hospital partners. MUSC’s Critical Care program has been recognized as among the best in the nation, including awards from the American Association of Critical Care Nursing and Critical Care Societies Collaborative. MUSC has implemented more than 20 quality improvement initiatives related to critical care in just the past year alone.
The MUSC and Advanced ICU Care partnership combines experienced intensivist-led care teams, sophisticated technology and collaborative programs with hospital staff to achieve a rigorous focus on evidence-based best practices that help improve patient care and safety.
MUSC’s Critical Care collaboration is made possible in part by a $12 million grant from the state of South Carolina and a $1.4 million grant from the Duke Endowment.A key component of the program is a roll out of a multidisciplinary quality improvement program to participating hospitals, supported in part by the Duke Endowment grant. This includes dissemination of MUSC’s evidence-based care protocols and quality improvement interventions, as well as multidisciplinary education (eg, grand rounds and case-based discussions), both on site and via teleconference, to encourage continuous enhancement of care.
As an academic institution, MUSC incorporates the most advanced research findings and procedures in its clinical operations. This new statewide telehealth network will share those cutting-edge practices as it advances the goal of improving health outcomes for critically ill patients throughout South Carolina.
