MEDULINE - Consultation Line for Health Professionals

MEDULINE is MUSC’s consultation line exclusively for health care professionals.  A call to MEDULINE connects you with MUSC faculty members who are widely recognized as experts in their fields and can provide specialized advice and care. 

You can call MEDULINE at 792-2200 or 1-800-922-5250 24 hours a day, seven days a week to:

  • Discuss patients or patient-related problems
  • Share ideas with colleagues
  • Make referrals
  • Arrange appointments
  • Arrange immediate patient transfers
  • Discuss procedures
  • Seek advice about medication
  • Determine the availability of research protocols
  • Get emergency information.

Every month, MEDULINE handles approximately 4,000 calls from physicians.  Resource representatives promptly answer each call, and will stay on the line with you until you’re connected with the appropriate physician or service.

Required Information for Referrals

Doctor and Nurse

When you call MEDULINE to refer a patient for treatment at the MUSC Medical Center, please be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Referring physician’s full name, address and telephone number(s)
  • Patient’s full name, address, telephone number(s) and guardian information if appropriate
  • Brief medical history of the patient, including medical procedures already completed
  • Patient’s insurance coverage, or information about the person or organization accepting financial responsibility for the patient’s treatment
  • Written referrals may be required

Please ask your patient to bring the following information:

 Results from medical procedures already completed

 Complete information on insurance coverage or appropriate verification from the person or organization accepting financial responsibility for the patient
