The Medical University of South Carolina participates in a large clinical research trials. The following section was designed to provide you with additional information on clinical trials at MUSC.

Clinical Trial information changes on a daily basis. Many Clinical Trials accept only a limited number of participants. Further, new trials are added on a routine basis as they are approved by the various Institutions involved. Therefore, we suggest if you are interested in a specific treatment for a specific condition you check back often in order to review your options.  Our listing of MUSC Clinical Trials is updated daily:

Individuals who participate in research studies are given the opportunity to benefit from treatments that are not currently available to the general public, but have shown promise in previous research.

Risks from participating in a clinical trial vary depending on the study. It is important to understand that not all new treatments produce the desired effect.

The following are several resources by which you may search for ongoing clinical trial information both here at MUSC and across the United States.

ClinicalTrails.gov
ClinicalTrials.gov provides regularly updated information about federally and privately supported clinical research in human volunteers. ClinicalTrials.gov gives you information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details.

CenterWatch
CenterWatch is a Boston-based publishing and information services company. They provide information services used by patients, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies, CROs and research centers involved in clinical research around the world.

Thomson CenterWatch provides a wealth of information about clinical research, including listings of more than 41,000 active industry and government-sponsored clinical trials, as well as new drug therapies in research and those recently approved by the FDA.

Cancer.gov
Cancer.gov provides and excellent resource for information related to clinical trials related to cancer treatment. The site is maintained by the National Cancer Institute and is updated on a routine basis.

Clinical Trial search results come from PDQ®, NCI's Physician Data Query database. It is a comprehensive source of up-to-date cancer information for patients and their families, health professionals, and others interested in learning more about cancer. PDQ information is available on the Internet through Cancer.gov, NCI's Web site, which features interactive search tools.

The PDQ database includes approximately 1,800 active clinical trials that are open to participants worldwide and more than 12,000 closed trials. Through the "Cancer Information" tab on Cancer.gov, you can also access cancer information summaries that describe the latest advances in screening, prevention, supportive care, genetics, treatment, and complementary and alternative medicine, in both technical and non-technical versions. Editorial boards of cancer experts review the current medical literature to update the PDQ cancer information summaries.
