Today more than 95% of the children born with congenital heart disease will survive to adulthood. These adults represent a growing population of patients who have pediatric like heart disease but face the usual issues of adult life – education, jobs, marriage and family. Their issues often require the expertise of specialists who understand both the complex nature of their heart condition as well as the medical and social issues faced by young adults. To address these needs The Children’s Heart Center has developed a program with a combined management team consisting of adult and pediatric cardiac specialist who can provide both perspectives. This multidisciplinary approach has proven to be the best way to care for this complex group of patients.
