Part of the mission of the Hollings Cancer Center is to advance the understanding of cancer. To that end, we seek to move beyond our hospitals and facilities into the communities we serve. Our community and outreach programs emphasize the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and timely treatment. It also is important to us to support our cancer survivors, and we have a number of innovative programs. Finally, outreach is a two-way initiative. We welcome area residents to join our volunteer program and join our efforts to make hope a reality. Cancer Disparities Program
The Hollings Cancer Center Cancer Disparities Program, led by Associate Director for Cancer Disparities Dr. Marvella E. Ford, advocates for critical resources to those who need them most. Hollings Cancer Center leaders advocate for policies and services that focus on the disproportionate health burden facing minority populations in our state.  Primary Prevention
Our primary cancer prevention efforts include cultural competency training, Embracing Hope Forums, a mobile health unit, smoking cessation programs, and "Train the Trainer" cancer education.
Survivorship
The Hollings Cancer Center has several innovative programs in place to address the physical and emotional needs of cancer survivors and their loved ones, and to offer them the tools to live as fully as possible. Examples include: the Patient/Family Resource Center, Integrative Cancer Care, psychological counseling, yoga, volunteering, Faces of Hope, and other sponsored events. Volunteer Opportunities
