Prostate Cancer Care

A diagnosis of cancer can be a frightening and emotional experience. For men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, those feelings can be coupled with the worry over possible lasting side effects of the disease and surgery. Fortunately MUSC has the most comprehensive treatment program for prostate cancer in South Carolina, including offering the greatest array of treatment options of any other health care facility in the state. Patients come from all over the Southeast to benefit from our advanced care. MUSC's Prostate Cancer Program offers:

  • Among the most experienced centers in the nation in staging and identifying early advanced disease — essential for effective multi-modality therapy
  • South Carolina’s only medical center offering all four types of prostatectomy — robotic, laparoscopic, perineal and retropubic
  • Most advanced diagnostic and staging capabilities for both localized and metastatic disease imaging
  • The latest radiotherapeutic techniques and national and regional clinical trials — MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center
  • Multidisciplinary team  — Urology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, interventional radiology and pathology
  • Genitourinary fellowship-trained pathologist who reviews all prostate biopsies obtained at MUSC and many from across the state
  • Weekly Tumor Board meetings to discuss each new case
