Kevin O. Delaney, M.D.
Dr. Delaney is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina who specializes in breast reconstruction. He performs all types of breast reconstruction with a particular interest in Natural Breast Reconstruction (autologous). He uses a variety of reconstructive techniques to achieve this goal including the DIEP flap, SIEA flap, muscle-sparing TRAM flap, TUG flap, and LD flap.
He is a native of Akron, Ohio and obtained his undergraduate pre-medical degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He then attended medical school and received his M.D. from Northeast Ohio Medical University. Following medical school, Dr. Delaney entered a rigorous five year general surgery residency program at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. After completing his residency he became Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery.
It was at this point in time that Dr. Delaney began to realize his dream of a career in reconstructive surgery. Thus, he proceeded to complete a Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at the University of Miami in Florida. He then continued to further his reconstructive training when he was chosen to enter the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the Ohio State University. During this time, he had the privilege of training with Dr. Michael Miller, a pioneer in the field of microsurgical breast reconstruction, who had relocated to the Ohio State University after practicing for twenty years at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. It was during these years that Dr. Delaney enhanced the techniques that he uses today to perform perforator flap natural breast reconstruction.
After completion of his training, Dr. Delaney was invited to join the faculty of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and a full-time attending surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition to performing both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, Dr. Delaney has a passion for teaching the next generation of plastic and reconstructive surgeons. He provides this education by conducting surgical research, writing research articles and textbook chapters, as well as lecturing and mentoring medical students and residents from around the country.
Dr. Delaney and his team are committed to helping each and every patient reach their personal best by providing compassionate care, a customized and comprehensive treatment plan, as well as the most innovative and effective surgical treatments. As a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. Delaney's personal goal is "to restore and make whole" one patient at a time.
