About Our Program
At the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), we are changing what’s possible for women in the aftermath of breast cancer – not only through innovation, but also through our patient-centered approach to care.
The distinguished plastic surgeons with the MUSC Advanced Breast Reconstruction Program have helped to pioneer and refine revolutionary techniques to rebuild a woman’s breast with her own tissue but without transferring any muscle. Our doctors have the microsurgical expertise required to detach a “free flap” of tissue from one part of a woman’s body then attach and shape it into a new, living breast. And because of their extensive experience, they can handle high-risk cases as well as complicated revisions to past reconstructions.
We also apply our talents to traditional reconstructions – including those that involve implants – as well as cosmetic breast surgery. We recognize that each woman’s situation is unique and will work closely with you to find the solution that best meets your needs and expectations. That philosophy extends through our multidisciplinary team.
We are thankful to be located in the historic city of Charleston, SC, a favorite travel destination, and to be part of MUSC, one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. The MUSC Advanced Breast Reconstruction Program incorporates the renowned clinicians and researchers of MUSC’s Hollings Cancer Center, the only caner center in South Carolina to be designated by the National Cancer Institute. We offer our breast cancer patients expert guidance in nutrition, genetics and physical therapy, as well as psychological and emotional support. Through it all, our nurse coordinators streamline the process, linking all the team members involved in your care while making your transformation as easy and successful as possible for you.
Knowing the impact that breast cancer can have, we find fulfillment in helping our patients to feel whole once again.
