 After graduating from South Dakota State University, Dr. Rames attended Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon graduating, he then completed his general surgery internship at the Medical University of South Carolina, which is also where he completed his residency.
Dr. Rames entered private practice in 1992 with North Trident Urology in Charleston, South Carolina. He continued a close affiliation with the University and operated with the residents during their Charleston County hospital rotations. It was during this time that he developed an interest in the study and treatment of voiding dysfunction and incontinence. In 1993, Dr. Rames joined the faculty in the department of urology and began developing the department’s capacity to evaluate and treat these common and debilitating disorders. Ultimately, Dr. Rames was instrumental in establishing the department’s Videourodynamics Lab. Sacral neuromodulation, or interstim, was introduced to the South Carolina area by Dr. Rames. Patients with severe bladder frequency, urgency, urge incontinence and urinary retention that have not responded to medical management are often helped by this revolutionary treatment. Dr. Rames continues to have a special interest in both male and female patients with voiding dysfunction and incontinence, as well as pelvic prolapse, fistulas and strictures. Men with incontinence and erectile dysfunction following treatment of prostate and other cancers are often referred to his practice for evaluation and treatment. Also, men with low testosterone levels, or hypogonadism, and other types of sexual dysfunction are treated in his practice. Additionally, he continues to include general urology in his practice including the treatment of stones, hematuria, and other common urologic complaints.  More information on Dr. Rames
