Thomas C. Rowland, Jr., M.D.
A former Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the MUSC Board of Trustees, Dr. Rowland has been a member of the Board since 1982, representing the medical profession from Congressional District 2. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Rowland received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina before completing a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Rowland spent 10 years in the Navy before settling in Columbia to work in private practice. He has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto twice, and he was the Distinguished Alumnus of MUSC in 1994. A former President of the South Carolina Medical Association, he currently holds Professorships at the USC School of Medicine and MUSC. He has also served as President of Southern Medical Association, Southern Gyn Society, and South Atlantic Association of Ob-Gyn. He is currently Treasurer of the American College of Ob-Gyn. Dr. Rowland has also visited China, India, Nigeria, and Afghanistan as a Field Training Consultant with Johns Hopkins University. He and his wife, Isabelle, have two children and six grandchildren.
