William B. Hewitt, M.S.E.E.
Mr. Hewitt of Charleston, began his term on the Board of Trustees on June 30, 2003, as the Governor’s At-Large appointee. He is President of Sirius Ventures, Inc., a consulting firm. He is Chairman of the Board of Polymer Group, Inc., and Global Vantage International. He is also Chairman of Water Missions International. He was the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Union Corporation prior to its sale to Outsourcing Solutions, Inc. Prior to joining Union Corporation, Mr. Hewitt was a founding partner and Executive Vice President of First Manhattan Consulting Group. He received a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and baccalaureate degrees from the U.S. Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and baccalaureate degrees from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He was a member of the Board of The Union Corporation, which was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He was also a member of the Board of Rexene, Inc., a chemical company listed on the NYSE until it was sold. Mr. Hewitt is active in the non-profit area, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Spoleto Festival USA, Junior Warden of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Chairman of The Citadel School of Business Administration Advisory Board, and was President of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association.
